Goat on the spit in Profitis Ilias
O Vrachos ("the rock") is one of the tavernas behind the mountain village of Profitis Ilias's fame for goat. The speciality is kid goat roasted on the spit, and it is worth the drive up.
Finish with one of their homemade spoon sweets: preserves of praousti, the island's wild plum, pumpkin, grape, cherry, sour cherry, fig, lemon or orange, which you can also buy in jars to take home. Tables sit in a yard shaded by trees.
